The salary scale for Professional Support 5 is based on twelve steps that range from $73,256.33 - $100,404.59. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $87,945.21 annually.
This is a remote work opportunity. You must have suitable work-from-home office space and be within commuting distance of any of NSCC's physical campuses. NSCC will supply your home office with all computing requirements (computer, monitors, etc.).
Responsibilities
What you will be doing…
Reporting to the Academic Chair, School of Access, Education and Language with a functional reporting relationship to the Manager of Student Services at eCampus, you will:
- Provide career, academic and personal counselling, as well as guidance and support for students in the Adult Learning Program (ALP), leading to the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults.
- Engage in student intake assessment, data management, orientation and retention support services as you collaborate with the School of Access, Education and Language and Student Services departmental teams, and with support agencies.
- Work closely with faculty of the Adult Learning Program and collaborate regularly with staff members in Student Services.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum education qualification is a master's degree in clinical social work, Psychology or Counselling or other master's degree enabling registration with one of the provincial regulatory bodies noted below.
- Registered with or undergoing candidacy process with the relevant regulatory body; Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT), Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW); Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP).
- You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of post counselling credential relevant occupational experience counselling adults in a variety of specialities, (e.g., academic, career and personal), including working with post-secondary and or secondary students.
- Occupational experience that includes working with adults in a post-secondary environment will be considered an asset.
- Experience in a fully online work environment will be considered an asset.
- Demonstrate an understanding/knowledge of the adult learner.
- Understand the framework for lifework development.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft SharePoint and E-mail. Experience using Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace and experience using Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as Peoplesoft will be considered an asset.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
- You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery, and evaluation.
- You possess the technology and interpersonal skills to build relationships and rapport in a fully online environment.
- Flexible work hours are sometimes needed to accommodate eCampus ALP student needs. This can include evening and weekend interactions.

- You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to student intake processes, tracking course enrolments, partnering with governmental and community agencies supporting learners including case workers from DCS and Employment NS.
- You have proven records and information management skills and abilities related to student transcripts, transfer credits, course mapping and tracking graduation pathways.
- You are dedicated to life-long learning and maintain an annual schedule of professional development.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a part-time adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
